Field Equipment Workshop
If you’ve ever shopped for field equipment, you know how frustrating it is to compare features and prices. I caught myself thinking, why doesn’t someone make a spreadsheet? Well, I finally decided to be that person, and then to discuss my findings in a workshop. Below is a comparison of prices, sizes, battery types and life, memory, as well as real linguist Pros and Cons of various recorders and microphones. There are also some field recording tips, as well as a sample workflow (citation needed) for field linguists. I can’t promise that the prices are up-to-date, but I’ll try to add on to it every year!
